OZ EN OISANS : HISTORY & CULTURE

Oz en Oisans is composed of 10 hamlets and a resort between 800 m and 1350 m of altitude in the Eau d'Olle valley.
I n 1874, Mr Bayle, vicar of Oz-en-Oisans, climbed a virgin summit in the Grandes Rousses massif, to which he gave his own name, Pic Bayle (3465m).
That first ascent made Oz the starting point for ascents pic Bayle and l'Etendard.

So the first alpinists were also the first summer tourists in the resort.
Today Oz also has winter tourism and the ten-year-old resort of Oz (1350m) is part of the Grandes Rousses / Alpe d'Huez skiing domain.

Oz has been able to develop an environmentally friendly kind of tourism, and now offers quality stays in a preserved environment.
