Since 1936 Alpe d’Huez has expanded at an altitude of 1860m on the southern flank of Grandes Rousses Massif. This health resort enjoys an average of 300 sunny days a year, from which its name of  "Island in the sunshine". As a lifestyle resort, it gathers quality rental accommodation, an exceptional ski area, powerful ski lifts and important vertical drop : 4 runs of more than 2000 meters, and not to forget, world's longest slope of Sarenne, of a lenght of 16km.

Only 1 hour away from Grenoble and less than 5 hours from Paris, Alpe d'Huez is a great playground with varied activities to do with your family or your friends.

With the 30th excavation campaign in the archaeological medieval site, the museum presents a new exhibition called "Une aventure minière, Huez et l’argent au Moyen Âge L’argenteria de brandis".


In Middle-Ages, silver is used to striking money. To exploit the silver vein an agglomeration – Argenteria de Brandis - is built from XIIth to XIVth century on the Brandes plateau, at 1800m altitude. Since 30 years, excavations allow to show a permanent village (the highest in Europe) and bring new informations about the miner world : miners everyday life, politic stakes of silver, history of the technics…
Each week, guided tour of the exhibition (French and English) and of the Notre-Dame des Neiges Chruch. Activities for children from 9 to 13 every wednesday.

Museum : free with VISALP pass, for children under 16 and each first sunday of the month. Animations (guided tours, workshops).

More than 8000 books are put at your disposal, to be lent or read on the spot. Services are completed by the rental or view of DVD. The library also features one different exhibition every month on various themes and puts events for old and young. The book club meets one a month.

TWINNING BETWEEN ALPE D’HUEZ AND BORMIO - ITALY

Since april 2005, Bormio (Italy) and  Alpe d'Huez are officialy twinned and organise exhanges and meetings between the two villages. Both touristic villages (winter and summer) with an ancient history, they both welcome a famous cycling race : the Giro and the Tour de France!
Thanks too this twinning, the people with a Visalp pass will be allowed to ski 6 consecutive days in Bormio and Livignio.

HUEZ : A GENUINE MOUNTAIN VILLAGE

At an altitude of 1450m, overhanging the Sarenne Comb, lies Huez, offering the quietness of a mountain village and the nearness of an international mountain resort.

Quietness, comfort and art of living make this village a place to enjoy time passing by. Everything here encourages lounging about, discovery of the tiny alleys leading to the Roman church Sainte-Anne.

One hotel and two country gites welcome tourists in quest of genuineness.

During the season shops, bars, bookshops and a cyber sopt are open to the public.

Thanks to the televillage of Huez - a main thread between history and modernity - skiers can access the resort of Alpe d'Huez within 5 minutes.
